Offered to Grades 11/12

This Regents preparatory course is offered to juniors wishing to earn additional credit in science.  Students enrolled in Physics will obtain a thorough understanding of the physical nature of matter and the relationship between matter and energy.  Use of scientific reasoning skills will be stressed throughout the course.  Students will develop the ability to think critically, be able to apply mathematical principles by manipulating equations, resolve vectors with trigonometry and report data, using appropriate tables and graphs.  Upon completion of this course, students will take the NYS Physics Regents Exam.  This course satisfies the grade requirement. STUDENTS IN THIS CLASS MAY BE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY FOR FIVE COLLEGE CREDITS FROM SETON HALL UNIVERSITY

FORENSIC SCIENCE 1 YEAR - 1 CREDIT

Prerequisite: 2 years of Science with Lab Component

Offered to Grades 11/12

Forensic Science is the application of science (chemistry, physics, and biology) to the criminal and civil laws that are enforced by police agencies in a criminal justice system.  It includes the investigation of fingerprinting, fiber analysis, ballistics, arson, trace evidence analysis, poisons, drugs, blood splatters, and laboratory analysis of various samples.

This course is designed to give students hands-on experience to reinforce lecture material through the incorporation of z-space technology (www.zspace.com) and real life crime scene simulation.

ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY     1 YEAR - 1 CREDIT

Prerequisite: 80% Biology and Chemistry Honor courses;  85% Biology and Chemistry courses

Offered to Grades 11/12

Anatomy and Physiology is a course that will enable students to develop an understanding of the relationships between the structures and functions of the human body.  Students will also learn mechanisms for maintaining homeostasis within the human body and study ways to prevent the development of some of these diseases and disorders.  This course will involve laboratory activities, projects, virtual dissections, models, diagrams through the implementation of z-space technology (www.zspace.com).

Students will identify some equipment used in health care, and practice the skills of taking some clinical measurements such as temperature, respiration rate, and blood pressure. Other skills
